Mr. Ramen San

Keep Calm… Eat Ramen…

Mr Ramen-san is now my favourite ramen place in Melbourne CBD! Affordable, quick and great during Melbourne’s winter coming up. With authentic Japanese managing the restaurant, making their noodles daily in a cosy spot near Chinatown definitely gives you the feel as though you are in Japan!

They do thick broths made from pork bones and collagen over high heat for many hours, in which it brings out the pork flavour and a creamy consistency. Although the broth is not as thick as other places I’ve tried, but it’s perfect for those who are not familiar with thick broth ramen.

This is the second time I’ve visited, and we didn’t have to wait long (approx 5-10mins) to be seated on a Sunday night around 7.00pm.

I, of course had the charsu in Teriyaki broth, $14.90, the charsu was stewed for many hours – it just melted in my mouth. I had to order an extra egg for $2 because it’s always cooked perfectly and you’d never go wrong! The yolk is slightly runny but still holds together so it doesn’t spill over to the creamy broth. The egg white is marinated in some kind of soy sauce – I wish I could do this myself – I’d have it everyday!

Mum had the Spicy Seafood Ramen, $15.90, she enjoyed it very much with her al dente ramen. She specifically complimented on the egg (no surprise here) and the spicy tonkotsu broth being packed full of flavour.

J ordered Beef, $14.90 with the same soup base as me but with FREE EXTRA NOODLES. Would you believe…? Yes, the condition is you have to finish the initial bowl of ramen before asking for the free extra noodles. The free extra noodles comes steaming hot, so when you slide the noodles into your initial ramen broth, it’s still nice and warm to slurp into your belly!

Based on my first paragraph in this post, you could probably tell how much I’d score my experience. I’d revisit again because of affordability, quick service and friendly staff! I see Mr. Ramen San as a hidden gem that really needs to be shared!
