Bibelot pronounced ‘Bib-loh’, is an european-inspired dessert boutique in South Melbourne. I believe they use to sell their desserts via Chez Dre when I first went to Chez Dre late 2014. And now… It seems to have opened it’s own boutique just in front of Chez Dre.

This place is great for high tea and catch up with the ladies. We went here for dessert on a Saturday night for a double date. The boutique was half full with outdoor seating at around 9-9.30PM.

Service: Some staff were absolutely wonderful, they knew we were excited about all the unique flavours on the board for sorbet and gelato, they offered us to try some of them. And we definitely took advantage of that offer. Fortunately, they didn’t show annoyance of any sort. They were still very happy to let us try til we could decide the best combination.

Their Showcase of chocolates and books on patisserie was like a library. I could imagine myself just chilling there for 2 hours by myself because of the cosiness of the interior. The packaging is very sharp and pretty. Colourful and sophisticated – it matches it’s luxury point of sale.

So we ordered the below:

Iced Matcha
Iced Matcha – $6.50

This Hot Choc in 64% Dark is one of the best ones using choc liqueur, I’ve never been able to find the dark choc for my tastebud. But this beats Maxbrenner and Cocolatte! Plus you get more than 1 cup full! 😉

Matcha Latte
Matcha Maiden – $4

As for Gelato’s we picked Choc & Peanut Butter Brittle and Pistachio. Both were devine.. packed with the real deal flavour. Peanut Butter Brittle gives a punch. Best sorbet was Mandarin & Yuzu – extremely refreshing and sour to balance our selection of sweets. Jaffa Whiskey isn’t my favourite unfortunately, I could taste the Whiskey and I ain’t a fan of whiskey. The boys found it different and may have liked it better!

The shortfall of arriving late is that you miss out of the popular desserts. Luckily we were able to score the Gourmandise Board (the most expensive dessert tasting plate). I’d recommend these boards if you’re a first timer, you get a taste of everything esp those that was sold out, I was able to have a taste of the Mango Dome which i’d think it’s similar to Mango, Yuzu and Coconut.

Service: Music turned off exactly by 10PM, however we hadn’t finished our drinks nor dessert, so we hurried up and tried to finish it, said thanks as we walked towards the exit, but one of the staff at the counter replied ‘yeh’ [unenthusiastic tone]. Gave us the impression that we weren’t welcome as they wanted to close on time. Maybe she just had a long day. For this, I won’t penalise them, as we did stay later than their closing time. But I was quite disappointed with that attitude…
