Lanzhou Beef Noodle Bar – Glen Waverley

Quite a few stores for Lanzhou Beef Noodle Bar in Melbourne. But we tried the one that was recently opened at The Glen food court. There’s always a line… we lined up at 2:30pm…

They stopped taking orders when we arrived because the chef cannot make that many hand made noodles. Staff couldn’t commit to a time in case they underestimated, which was fair. We were happy to wait and it only took additional 5 minutes for us before the queue starts moving.

I’ve been here twice now and the noodles are consistently good. I love how you can choose your noodle thickness. Customised for everyone! The chef hand pulls the noodles for each dish and are cooked separately to other orders. Their appetisers like the shredded potato and chicken giblets are quite nice. But their 5 spiced beef was a bit dry and flavour wasn’t there.

I had the Lanzhou handmade Beef Noodle Soup first one without leek, chilli or coriander and I felt it was a bit sad… Though the soup base was clear and fresh. So I tried the braised beef noodle the second time with a little bit of chilli and leek – much better. So much more flavour and it wasn’t spicy at all! Both were good. I drank some of their soup. I did feel super sleepy afterwards. So.. was I affected by their soup? Not sure…

J had the Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodle Soup and that had a bit of sourness to the soup. Much stronger in flavour than Lanzhou handmade Beef Noodle Soup without the leek, chilli or coriander. 🙂

Overall, I’d revisit for $12.80. Servings were large. I’d be selective on their appetisers. I find them a little dear. Drinks were good – you can’t really get them in a lot of places. E.g. Plum juice, pear with glutinous rice…
